I recently featured an old telephone box in Castle Cary, which is in the process of being lovingly restored.
It prompted an email and some images from Michael Whitcroft, who wrote:
‘Castle Cary cares. And so does Weymouth!!! (see attached picture!)

So, what could be done about the appalling mess of the one at the bottom of The Gravel Walk in Bath…what a mess!

I find it a complete eyesore and would love to know who owns it and what could be done to restore it.”

Michael, l do believe CARA – the Circus Area Residents Association – has been trying to take possession to do it up. It appears to be a lengthy process.
We also have a recently decommissioned telephone box at the crossroads of Sion Hill East and West, Winfred’s Lane, and Cavendish Road. We are trying to find out from development_management@banes if they are responsible for the upkeep. It is a difficult and costly exercise to take on a telephone box, apart from maintenance insurance is needed. We even looked into getting a defibrillator as certain charities can help. Either way it requires quite a financial input. I did hear that these old red boxes may be listed. Needless to say we have had no reply from Banes.

Perhaps BT’s ‘Adopt a Kiosk’ website might offer a way forward?

The grey one by Royal Crescent isn’t a lot better. This World Heritage Site needs to pull its socks up!
