Looking East with Jane

[Staff from the Museum of East Asian Art getting into the Regency mood!]

With Bath’s long-awaited Jane Austen Festival Week finally arriving in September, the Museum of East Asian Art is not going to miss out on getting involved in the celebrations.

As the city celebrates the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen – Sept 12 to 21 – the museum will invite festivalgoers to experience the Regency world from an unexpected perspective.

Glauke Bogaert emailed me to say: ‘To mark Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary, we’re offering a unique cultural twist with our special tour: Jane Austen Walked Past Here: East Asia and Austen: an exploration of how East and Southeast Asian art and culture influenced daily life in Georgian Britain.

From Chinese porcelain to tea rituals, we connect Austen’s world to global influences that are often overlooked.

We’ll be running four tours during the festival week, as well as a one-off Fan Painting Workshop on Tuesday 16 September at 13:00.”

Here’s the official release:

“Join us for Jane Austen Walked Past Here: East Asia and Austen Tours. Special tours are offered four times during the festival week. Discover how East and Southeast Asian art and culture influenced daily life in Georgian Britain, from tea rituals to porcelain prestige.
