A couple of weeks ago, my friend Richard Lucking sent me images of the damage that has been done to the New Bridge, which carries the Bath-Bristol road over the River Avon.
Looks like something has collided with the stonework of the structure, which dates back to 1734.

I have received a statement from B&NES which reads as follows:
“The damage to the bridge at Newbridge was caused by a road traffic collision.
The work to repair the damage will be carried out by a specialist stone mason and has been added to our highway structures programme.
The scaffolding will be installed in the next few weeks, and the temporary barrier will remain in place until the repairs can be completed.”

Why can’t Banes be more specific?
Maybe there is court action involved?
