Sydney Road has been blocked at the bottom of the hill as part of a Liveable Neighbourhood scheme.
As a cyclist, I welcome this move but cannot understand why B&NES wastes money redoing the yellow lines on top of a road surface which is not cycle-friendly!!
It’s in a terrible state with ruts and patches galore. Last winter I caught a wheel in a tarmac groove and went flying over the handlebars.
……….. Sydney Road was always ‘cycle friendly’. It is now a pot-holed linear car park. It is fast becoming one of those city back-streets best avoided.
Well, Richard the Council have effectively made it a private road for the benefit of the residents and its donors so perhaps the deal that Kevin Guy made with Highways to enable the privatisation of the road means the Council has to pay for the upkeep of it and we all know how strapped for cash the council is.
Coukdn’t agree more with John H. This road stretch is now being used as a free stop-off pick-up point for school rat run parents. And a skateboarding paradise. And a mobile phone conversational hub. It is a travestry.
