The boarding that has been put up around scaffolding now installed on either side of the High Street entrance to the Corridor is an obvious target for urban daubings, and no amount of painting out will stop it.
Why not let all the businesses in that historic shopping arcade cover said boarding with signage advertising their presence?
Currently, it must be tough on all of them while repairs to the ornate canopy over the entrance are carried out.
Nothing much seems to be happening. Are they going to have to apply for planning permission to carry out repairs? The entire process is extremely slow, and in the meantime, this ‘cover-up’ is likely affecting foot traffic and trade.
Interesting post and a very good idea about the signage
Thanks for your thoughtful posts and in particular this one
Yes, just get on with it. Someone from BANES’ Conservation Dept could pop across the road, meet the owner and contractor and agree what would be considered acceptable in terms of repairs and restoration. Document it and get all three parties to sign ! Why should it take so long ? China might have built another railway at this rate !
Pity what’s happening to our once wonderful City of Bath, I guess all part of the Destruction of Bath. Makes me feel sad of the memories I enjoyed over 83 years to see the desmise.
I think it’s called modern life – every city in the Kingdom has changed, many more drastically Bath. Just imagine someone of your age in 1890 looking at Bath then, with all the Victorian development, factories, railways, rows and rows of terraced houses, smoke, noise, traffic. If they compared with what they remembered growing up, then they might feel rather like you do. I think I would rather live in Bath as it is now than what it was like in 1890 ( except the steam engines !)
