A city for everyone

[Alex Shearman, CEO, Bath Preservation Trust]

People and places have featured big time in Alex Sherman’s professional working life.

If it’s not in supporting young, and often isolated, people in rural Somerset, then it’s in leading a restoration scheme in the Avalon Marshes near Glastonbury that created the largest area of reedbed in the country, providing a haven for Nature.

Coupled with his love of architecture, it’s not surprising that he ends up leading a charity very much concerned not only with preserving Bath’s history but also future-proofing its heritage, architecture and culture. A watchdog and promoter of a present and future city for all.

Bath Preservation Trust owns four local museums and l went to chat to Alex at one of them.

We had a fine view of the lawns in front of the Royal Crescent from our upstairs vantage point in No 1.

  1. Shame he could not prevent the Lower Bristol Road development which has become the Destruction of Bath and the ugliest street in the City.
