What next for The Corridor?

I have been keeping an eye on the B&NES planning application list to see if there is any mention of a request for permission to carry out repairs to the ornate glass and metal canopy fronting The Corridor shopping arcade on the High Street.

Nothing so far.

The entrance way has been surrounded by scaffolding for weeks, but with no indication of what is to happen next.

This is what l know so far.

The Corridor is owned by millionaire businessman David Sullivan, chairman and largest shareholder of West Ham Football Club.

His agent in the region is a gentleman who works for Hartnell Taylor Cook in Bristol, who has so far ignored/overlooked three emails l have sent him.

It’s my understanding that contractors have been appointed to deal with this matter. I emailed Ralley Building Solutions of Keynsham to see if they could tell me more.

They replied: “Thank you for your email, we are unable to provide any further information regarding works due to confidentiality. The owner has made all business aware of works required and timescales.”

I also understand that Ironart of Bath – traditional and contemporary ironworkers – may end up doing the repairs to the metalwork, but it is unclear as to whether they will take the whole canopy away for repairs or segments of it.

I have also heard that the scaffolding may be ‘boxed in’ tomorrow (Saturday) to at least tidy things up a bit.

The Corridor businesses l talked to were unclear about what is going to happen next. Obviously, no work can be carried out until planning permission has been obtained. The Corridor is a Grade 11 listed arcade.
