Watch it on Widcombe Hill

Here’s some highway information for people using Widcombe Hill in Bath, between 3 – 28 March, as B&NES will be carrying out highway and pedestrian safety improvement works. i

From 3 March, two-way temporary signals will be in place in Widcombe Hill as the council makes changes to improve safety at the junction with Macaulay Buildings.

Two new give-way points are being installed, designed to reduce approaching vehicle and cycle speeds as they approach the bend. Improvements are also being made here to improve sightlines as well as widened footways, high friction surfacing and speed cushions being introduced. Parking will also be formalised along the length of Widcombe Hill.

Initial design proposals for the Prospect Road junction brought forward by the council were changed following feedback from residents, no changes are being introduced at this location.

From 17 March a section of Widcombe Hill, between the double mini roundabout and Tyning End, will be closed for two weeks as the council makes improvements to the carriageway including widening footways and introducing bollards to stop vehicles mounting kerbs, new parking bays, road markings and a narrowed junction at Cambridge Terrace. All disabled parking bays will remain unaffected.

During this closure, a short diversion route via Bathwick Hill/A36/St Matthews Place will be in place.

Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We’re making changes all along Widcombe Hill that will increase the safety of motorists and pedestrians. There may be some delays during the two-week closure so please plan your journey if moving in the area”

Advanced notices have been in place to inform motorists of the upcoming works. Delays may occur, especially around peak times.
