We like to make our visitors feel welcome, don’t we and recognise how important tourist revenue is to Bath and its environs. Plus, of course, there’s all the local people employed and earning a living from the tourism industry.
That ‘welcome’ became a physical reality back in 2018 when the first ‘Welcome Ambassadors’ took to the streets – a team of volunteers who greet and help our visitors around Bath city centre. An idea introduced by the Bath BID – an organisation we will hear more about in a moment.
The ‘Welcome Ambassadors’ work in pairs every week from Thursday to Sunday, but during the Christmas Market, they worked a tremendous 240 hours every day and handed out 4,400 free maps of the city.

You can’t miss them either. They all wear turquoise-coloured fleeces or waterproof jackets with ‘Welcome to Bath’ and ‘Ask Me’ emblazoned upon them.

Two of these cheerful and helpful people came around to Wyatt’s Place to talk about their jobs and the people they engage with during the year.

It was a pleasure to meet Ann Cullis and Rowland Cleverley who were also keen to encourage anyone else who would like to represent their city to come forward and volunteer.
