I have mentioned this up-and-coming event before but – bearing in mind what is currently happening regarding the future of this beleaguered country – l am happy to remind you that a special concert of Ukrainian music and culture is being held at Bath Abbey on Monday the 24th of February, to mark the third anniversary of the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
It’ll be hosted by former BBC TV and radio presenter Ali Vowles and attended by the Deputy Ambassador for the country.

The evening will showcase musical talent from Ukraine, including Mariia Yaremak, the pianist and composer and Nicole Medin who has regularly enchanted audiences with her beautiful singing. The Argyle String Orchestra will also be performing as well as the Bath Voices for Life children’s choir who recently delighted Abbey audiences with their very own concert, Stardust.
Concert organiser and Chair of the Friends of Oleksandriya, Zhenya Shkil, says she is delighted Ali Vowles has added her support to the third concert to mark the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The Deputy Ambassador for Ukraine will also be attending.
During the event the Ukrainian illustrator Alexandra Dikaia will be creating a painting live on stage. It will be auctioned towards the end of the concert to help raise funds for the city of Oleksandriya. The Friends group has been helping send generators and supplies over the 3 years of the war.
Organiser Zhenya Shkil has dedicated the concert to the memory of three of her relatives who were killed in an airstrike in Ukraine in November last year.

Presenter Ali Vowles says “The evening promises to showcase the culture and community spirit of the country – and raise vital funds for the people of Oleksandriya. I think it will be a very special evening”
