Road works

A warning from Bath and North East Somerset Council for people using Prior Park Road in Bath – between 3 – 21 February – as highway improvement work is due to be carried out.

Resurfacing, drainage and footway improvement works will be undertaken in stages over 19 days.

Residents and businesses have been contacted directly by the council. The road will reopen most weekends. Some of the works coincide with the school half-term to minimise disruption to the traffic network.

Prior Park Road schedule of works is as follows:

  • Footway improvement works, 3 – 7 February. Two-way temporary signals in place throughout at the junction of Prior Park Road and Prior Park Cul-De-Sac.
  • Drainage improvement works, 10 – 14 February. Full road closure in place throughout between the junction of Prior Park Cottages and the double mini roundabout. A diversion route will be in place.
  • Highway resurfacing works, 17 – 21 February. Highway resurfacing at Prior Park Road between its northern junction with the double mini roundabout and Bath Abbey Cemetery. Works to be done under full road closure between 7am and 7pm. A diversion route will be in place.

Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Highways said: “We’ve had reoccurring issues with flooding affecting businesses in Prior Park Road and we’ll be working with Wessex Water to upgrade our drainage infrastructure here to resolve these problems. We’re keeping disruption to a minimum by carrying out some of our work over school half term as well as keeping the road open on weekends.”

The council is resurfacing 5,000m2 of highway during the works, bringing an area of highway equivalent to 19 tennis courts back to a high standard. Lining works will also be completed.

Advanced notices and diversion routes for traffic will be in place during works that require closure on Prior Park Road. The council will also use temporary variable messaging signs to warn motorists of the works. Diversion routes for these and all other roadworks can be seen on one.network.
