Perry on parade

Popped into Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery this morning – just shortly before the doors opened on a free exhibition of work by local cartoonist and landscape artist Perry Harris.

I am so pleased that – after so long – this self-effacing man is getting some recognition for his unique ‘take’ on contemporary Bath society.

Plus his love of Bath landscapes is also explored through his watercolours.

We are a week away from the re-opening of the large gallery which will invite you to ‘step into the scandalous world of Georgian Bath, with satirical works by Thomas Rowlandson and John Nixon,’ with “Mirror of Mirth: Satire in Georgian Bath.”

The two exhibitions are linked across the years in that all the illustrations take a humourous and sometimes scathing look at life – past and present.

But let’s get back to my chat this morning with Jim Riseley who is a Museum and Exhibitions Assistant at the Victoria Gallery.

Perry Harris

If you want to hear more about Perry Harris. I did a podcast with him recently which you will find – along with many others – at “Wyatt’s Place” on Spotify.

Or do a search at the bottom of this blog page.

  1. Thanks for flagging up the Perry Harris exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery. It’s well worth a visit! The drawings are very funny and a sharp observation of how Bath has gone downhill, over the years. The people depicted sadly do reflect real life today 😒
