Bristol Airport expansion

If, like me, you are on the internet mailing list for Bristol Airport, you will have received an email inviting you to comment on helping ‘to shape Bristol Airport’s proposals for future development to 2040.’

Once you go through to the ‘consultation’ there is quite a lot to absorb but it is clearly set out – well, from Bristol Airport’s point of view of course.

I have to admit we use the airport – like many millions of others in the South West and South Wales. They hit ten million passengers last year, and are looking to accommodate fifteen million by 2036.

How things could look in the future.

It’ll mean a short runway extension, but also an expansions of the airfield apron to provide additional aircraft stands and extensions to the existing terminal and parking facilities.

We are – apparently – the UK’s eighth busiest airport, and any extension of facilities would ‘ help to take some pressure off London airports.’

The consultation pushes its positives. More local jobs – the ability to reach places like New York and Dubai directly – and a massive increase in the airport’s contribution to the local economy.

I am not expressing an opinion either way but directing you to the consultation website. Do have a look. These are only proposals, and not a planning application!
