That’s better!

A clear entrance again to Southgate.

I was never sure what an archway of wicker baskets was all about.

Maybe it was to remind people what shopping was like before plastic carrier bags plagued the Earth.

Loving the REAL flowers.

  1. The multi-coloured umbrellas of past were fabulous & loved by everyone & a welcome shade in high summer.
It even looks a bit dreary again now.
    Xmas cometh….!

  2. The basket arches were weird and too closely related to the now ubiquitous cascades of plastic flowers for my liking. Georgian architecture was severe and mathematical on the outside and should not be adorned with artificial floral frippery. SouthGate aspires(fairly unsuccessfully) to reflect the Georgian style, so they too should stick to real flowers in appropriate containers. Overflowing window boxes? OK if you must. A couple of years back a bar opened in SouthGate displaying a banner promoting a “Buy a pint and save a tree” campaign. The banner was set off by a row of sad looking plastic shrubs . I rest my case.
