Making Lansdown Road safer

Look out for a new zebra crossing on Lansdown Road in Bath.

Works to install a new raised crossing, widen footways and resurface the highway have been completed.

The schemes completion marks the fourth new zebra crossing introduced by Bath & North East Somerset Council this year, with works to completing a fifth at London Road East, Batheaston currently underway.

Alongside the new crossing, changes were made to the pedestrian island, sections of highway and footway were resurfaced, high friction surfacing was added, and signage was removed and updated.

The council’s initial plan for the busy junction, which is part of the Lansdown Park & Ride route, was updated following concerns raised by residents in a consultation.

Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “The changes introduced, and the new layout of this junction, reflect the feedback we received from residents and is another great step as we look to continually make our roads safer for everyone.”

“With this new crossing as well as the zebra crossing installed earlier this year near Lansdown Grove, the journey for all pedestrians using Lansdown Road is now a safer one.”

  1. I’d like to know what residents thought this was a good idea. A crosswalk on paper sounds good but the location could have been far better. Another of Rigbys idea and not sure what the public wanted. This corner has been messed with so many times

    1. Kerri- that is an absolutely bizarre statement to make. It’s a route to school, the church, to many, many homes and slows the traffic down at a very dangerous place to close the road.
