Another September date for your diary – especially if you are into history, railways and the environment.
Box Parish Council is holding a free Open Heritage Day exhibition as part of England’s largest community-led festival of history and culture.

It’s an area rich in industrial history thanks to its stone quarries and Brunel’s Great Western Railway passing through Box Hill.

Using this year’s theme of Routes, Networks and Connections, the event – on Saturday, September 7th – will also provide the opportunity to highlight the Council recently becoming a Gateway Ambassador on the Great West Way® a touring route between London and Bristol.

The exhibition open from 10:00 until 12:00, will relate to the history of these themes in the Box area.
It will include material provided by the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens on works they undertake in the Parish to maintain and improve access to the considerable number of footpaths in the area. Heritage Trial leaflets will be available (free) to members of the public.
Dr Brian Mathew, Member of Parliament for Melksham & Devizes, and Wiltshire Unitary Councillor for Box and Colerne will also be holding a Surgery in a private room at the Pavilion for residents in his constituency, between 10:00 and 11:45.
He will then be available with the Chair of the Parish Council, Tim Walton, at 11:45 to 12:00 to conclude the main event.
