Scaffolding – old and new

Time to talk scaffolding. The array of poles and planks around one side of the Victoria Art Gallery is all to do with work that is needed to replace glass panes on the roof which has been there since the place opened in 1900 and had started to leak.

However, it was fingers crossed that a full scale roof inspection wouldn’t also uncover problems with the wooden framework.

My understanding is that a huge sign of relief was almost audible coming from the Guildhall!! It appears to be sound.

Now it’s just a question of ordering the glass and fitting it so the upper gallery and new education centre can open.

Meanwhile, let’s move on to more permanent scaffolding elsewhere.

  1. My recollection is that scaffolding has been up since at least 2011. If BANES own it then it should take off the SN signage – it gets enough free advertising all over Bath. You would have thought BANES’s own maintenance team would have been able to do a monthly safety inspection…

  2. I suggest you talk to Sn Scaffolding. My husband works for Sn. The scaffolding has been up for alot longer than 6 years!
