Mr Panto

For me there’s nothing like the shared experience of live theatre where an audience gathers to both help create atmosphere and to appreciate the magic being created for them on stage.

My guest visitor to my Wyatt’s Place podcast today is an award-winning actor and writer who could be said to specialise in making people of all ages laugh.

Jon Monie may be best known for his annual panto appearances at Bath’s Theatre Royal – including a run of 11 years alongside one of the theatre’s great pantomime Dames, the late Chris Harris.

However, he doesn’t only appear in those laughter-filled and traditional Christmas spectaculars, but he writes them too – along with other fantasy tales destined for the stage.

Jon’s career took him, via a comedy double-act, into television and radio and other work elsewhere – including regular performances with Instant Wit – the region’s premier comedy improvisation company.

Just recently he appeared – to rave reviews – at Bath’s Old Theatre Royal in the world premiere of Slapstick – a play about Joseph Grimaldi – the most popular English entertainer of the Regency period. A man whose fame was established primarily by his numerous successes playing the Clown in pantomimes.

Make yourselves comfortable. Settle back, and l hope you enjoy my conversation with Jon Monie at Wyatt’s Place on Spotify where you will find lots of other interesting local people who have come for a chat.
