Sounds of Sudan

Danny Vincent writes:

“We’re holding an event at the Widcombe Social Club in June showcasing Sudanese musicians and we wondered if it’d be of interest for you as a subject for the Newseum.

It will be in the evening of Saturday 1st June, and we’ll have two duos performing, someone giving a small talk on their recent experience of fleeing Sudan, and some Sudanese snacks.

It will be organised as partnership between Lorraine Aynesu Refugee Arts (LARA – who I’m representing) and Sudafest.

By coincidence, I’m based in Bath and so are Hiba and Mo who run Sudafest.

For interest, one of the duos performing for the event in Nabra, who have been playing together since they met at a LARA event about ten years ago, & they’ve gone one to record with the Ligeti String Quartet, perform at the Eistedfodd, and other places.

This is a video of them performing for the Bristol Refugee Festival in 2020 during the lockdowns. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lULf04ecn74
