It’s been a lengthy task, but conservationists are making a good job of removing modern paint and conserving the columns on one side of Bath Street. The coating being applied now is a protective coat of lime wash which – apparently – is a traditional practice.

It must have been a fairly lengthy task to have painted the pillars white in the first place! I can’t imagine how that slipped past the eagle eyes of the city guardians, let alone the members of my very own Bath Whingeing Society . I have a friend from Brisbane who burst into tears early one morning on first seeing Bath Street. She cried again when I sent her a pic of “that” paint job . I have no doubt she will well up again when she sees harmony restored ! Maybe it takes an outsider to truly appreciate the beauty of Bath
