Bath welcomed a touch of retro glamour at the weekend, as the UK’s stylish ‘Lido Ladies’ made the most of the warmer weather and took to the waters of the newly-opened Cleveland Pools.
On Sunday the historic lido opened to the public for swimming, marking the exciting culmination of a renovation project 19 years in the making.
To celebrate the opening, swimming was free for the day. Keen to be a part of the first day of swimming, the Lido Ladies – known for their lively Instagram presence – brought their infectious energy and colourful swimming caps to the stunning destination.

The Lido Ladies emerged on Instagram in 2020 during the first UK lockdown, when public access to lidos was temporarily halted. United by their love for outdoor swimming and a desire to share their passion, they quickly gained a devoted following. Now, they have taken their water-bound adventures to Cleveland Pools, making a splash among enthusiastic onlookers and fitness enthusiasts.
Cleveland Pools in Bath first opened to the public in 1817. It held a significant place in the hearts of the people of Bath and the surrounding region for almost two centuries, until it closed to the public in the 1980s.
The project to save the pools began in 2004 with the formation of the Cleveland Pools Trust, a group of committed volunteers who came together with a vision to restore the pools to their former glory and reopen them to the community of Bath.

The team at Cleveland Pools, expressed their delight in hosting the Lido Ladies, saying; “Opening for the first public swim since the restoration was thrilling and it seemed really fitting to welcome the Lido Ladies and their retro styling too. Their charismatic presence, colourful outfits and love for all things aquatic really added to the atmosphere.”
