Despite flooding – and legal and technical hitches – the Cleveland Pools Trust hopes to be up and running with their Bath-based heated open-air former Georgian lido in time for the school summer holidays.

That’s the optimistic forecast l was given today by the Chair of the Trust, Paul Simons, when l met him on site beside the River Avon – and just off Hampton Row.

This is Britain’s oldest lido – dating back over 200 years – and thanks to a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of 6.8 million and other fundraising – this wonderful heritage site should be back in use as a community pool within a few months.

I had to start our interview by saying the pool water was not looking as crystal clear as the last time we met for the official reopening, back in September last year.
