We all know how important the Roman Baths are to the local economy – and the council’s resources – so it’s no surprise to hear that this unique archaeological site is piloting a new offer this year.
It involves new Sunrise Tours which will give visitors the rare opportunity to explore the historic monument outside of normal opening hours, with an exclusive number of people, and discover the fascinating history of the site from an expert guide.
The hour-long tours will cover the history of the Roman Baths, revealing how they were used by the Romans, and how they were discovered and excavated in the 1800s. Visitors will explore the Roman Baths museum with some of our most experienced staff and get to talk to them about the unique artefacts on display, including the gilt bronze head of the goddess Sulis Minerva and the magnificent Gorgon’s Head. After the tour, visitors will be free to carry on exploring the site at their leisure, though after 10am the site will also open to the general public.

Sunrise Tours are perfect for those looking for a quieter, more intimate, experience when visiting one of the finest historic sites in the world.”
Tours will begin at 9am on Mondays and Fridays, from February to June 2023 (excluding school holidays and Bank Holidays).
Pre-booking is essential, as tickets will not be available to purchase on the day, and tickets will be limited to a maximum of 60 people per session. Tickets cost £60 per person, with group discounts available.
Those wishing to make the morning even more special can book a table in the grand Pump Room restaurant, which offers a choice of luxurious Champagne Bucks Fizz Brunch or morning coffee with pastries, accompanied by live music.
