A monster hit!

Wet weather or dry – l have a hot tip for families looking for something to see that’s a bit different in Bath this year.

Behind a classically-fronted building, to one side of Queen Square, is the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution – but don’t be put off by the name. Everyone knows it as BRLSI – pronounced ‘brill see’ – and it can seriously lay claim to being the Museum of Bath.

There’s not much room to display much of its incredible collection at any one time, but Matt Williams (the man who manages those treasures in the basement) has, with his team, just put together an amazing exhibition that links ancient myth and legend with the real monstrous life forms of this planet’s past.

A chance for you to meet some fantastical creatures – and some natural ones – extracted from the pages of the historic books and boxes of specimens the Institution holds.

It’s called Beyond Beastly: Creatures Real And Imagined and has just opened. It’s a FREE exhibition that runs through to October 1st.
