Picture of the day. Wednesday, February 23rd

A flower blooming in the botanical gardens – just up the road from where we are staying on the island of Gran Canaria – off the coast of Africa.

It’s a much-needed and long-delayed break.

I am well aware of how bad the weather is back home and also – despite the sunshine – very conscious of the dark clouds of war gathering over Ukraine.

It is a country l have visited and l have fond memories of warm hospitality and the pride Ukrainians feel for their country.

Not many months ago in Bath, we went to hear British astronaut Tim Peake talk about his time on the International Space Station.

I took away one particular thing he said and that is – looking down from space – this Earth bears no boundary lines and no border posts.

Yet there are men who – for pride and possession – would seek to destroy it.
