I’ve used their churchyard for so many early morning video chats with you, so l was honoured when St Mary’s Church at Upper Swainswick – on the slopes of the beautiful Woolley Valley – asked me to read a lesson at their annual Carols by Candlelight service.
My husband Darren and l took along friends Niall and Stuart for a really atmospheric – if slightly chilly – service of readings and carols. Not easy singing through a mask either!
Mary Edwards was the organist and her husband Fred – when not bell-ringing – gave another angle to our filming of the last carol – sung outside while the night crept over our little gathering.
