Earlier this year Bath Newseum reported on the woman who had sunk her own cash and six years of her life into getting a new family musical on the stage of Bath’s Forum theatre.

Featuring a cast of over 50 adults and young people, MISSRED was written and produced by Mel Lawman and tells the story of a young girl and her adventures in the West Country.

The Pandemic – with the uncertainty of further lockdowns – forced her to cancel but – it seems – all has not been lost.
Mel tells me :
“Despite the turbulent year for Musical Theatre, we have good news.
We’ve been recording the final songs for the MISSRED cast album at Real World Recording Studios in Box on the weekend.

We spent a glorious day there in September for the first recording sessions in the big studio with as large a cast as Covid restrictions would allow. The sun shone down on us that day and all the cast could enjoy the gorgeous grounds there.

We have now returned to the Wood Studio to complete the last few songs. The band recorded their music at The Forum in August and sound fabulous.

The cast recording will soon be available to download. I will be discussing the next plan for the musical with Bryn (Manager of The Forum) in the New Year.
We hope to stage a co-produced large-scale production at The Forum in August 2023 if we can secure the necessary funding. We will be holding auditions for the cast in 2022 and will involve creatives from the local community.”

Bath-based musician and choir leader Matt Finch is the musical’s composer. Additional numbers were written by Owain Coleman and Tom Cory.

Mel added: “We are thrilled with the talented cast and this momentous achievement. Launching the recording on the website just before Christmas will be thrilling!”
