What you call a glassy tree

Popped into the Victoria Art Gallery this morning to find work starting on decorating the foyer’s newly-installed Christmas tree.

Every year the Friends of the gallery sponsor a fir and ensure it’s uniquely festooned with seasonal delights.

Later in the day – Candace comes to inspect the decorated tree.

This year the sparkle comes from exquisite mirrored icicles made by local Somerset artist Candace Bahouth who came to England from America with a Fine Arts degree.

For the last 25 years, she has worked in mosaic, creating pieces that range from encrusted shoes to mirrors, candlesticks and candelabras. She has done major commissions for gardens, restaurants and hotels. Her work is in the V&A and other museums.

The icicles are on sale for £5 each but – though you can order via fovagmembers@gmail.com – they won’t be available to collect until the tree comes down in early January.
