News about the return of the free online book festival this autumn.
Reading is Magic Festival is back by popular demand. It was created in 2020 during lockdown by the Bath Children’s Literature Festival team who didn’t want young readers to miss out on the experience of live author events.
That 2020 digital festival was a huge success, watched by around 150,000 children and young people in more than 65 countries.
Reading is Magic Festival for schools and families in 2021 will run from Monday 27 September to Friday 1 October.
Authors and illustrators taking part include Cressida Cowell, the current Waterstones Children’s Laureate, who inspired the festival’s name, Reading is Magic, Michael Rosen, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Holly Bourne, Rob Biddulph, Alice Oseman, Laura Ellen Anderson, BB Alston, Will Sutcliffe and poet Rebecca Tantony.
Young readers will still be able to also enjoy live events as the Bath Children’s Literature Festival will take place in Bath, 24 September – 4 October.
Festival partnerships forged last year have been built on and Bath Children’s Literature Festival will this year be joined by Boswell Book Festival, Bradford Literature Festival, Kingston (Jamaica) Book Festival, the Irish Children’s Laureate, New Dutch Writing, Seven Stories, Toronto International Festival of Authors and Wigtown Book Festival.
