Open again – but not so merry for some.

Well, here we are then……

Tier 2 kicks into operation and the shopkeepers of Bath are finally able to open their doors in the hope of recouping some of the losses they have suffered this year because of the Pandemic and its two lockdowns.

For some sales assistants, who are returning to work today, this is not a time to make merry as they stand to lose their jobs.

Covid 19 appears to have been the final straw for some of the big names of the High Street who – for various reasons – have been struggling for some time.

Debenhams UK and the Arcadia Group’s Topshop/Topman stores could soon disappear from our shopping centres.

Some thoughts on the subject……

Meanwhile, the Bath Business Improvement District (Bath BID) – which represents 197 hospitality businesses and 293 retailers in the centre of Bath – has issued the following statement.

“We are saddened by the news of the collapse of Arcadia Group. It is a big loss for the city, and devastating for the staff working in Arcadia Group stores in Bath. It has never been more important for people to support local businesses. We urge people to do their Christmas shopping in Bath, to help businesses through this incredibly difficult time.”

I am trying for a statement from the Southgate Centre management.
