Good to hear that the Museum of Bath at Work is getting ready to reopen its doors on August 1st – and with the message to ‘please come back and enjoy a different experience as we work to keep us all safe’.
The Museum holds a unique local history collection and the reconstructed interiors of an engineering works, ironmonger’s shop, soft drinks factory, cabinet makers works and stone mining face. It is the Museum of the People of Bath.
The museum is one of the first museums in the city to be able to reopen.
Following the Government’s announcement that heritage sites can reopen, the Museum of Bath at Work team will provide a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors in line with physical distancing and industry guidelines. The full two-metre rule can be maintained throughout the Museum.
From Saturday, August 1st until further notice, opening hours will be adjusted to afternoons only, 1.30 pm-5pm with last entry at 4pm. Local residents and Discovery Cardholders will be warmly welcomed.
Key safety measures include requiring hand washing before entry to the Museum, physical distancing, a one-way route and an increased cleaning regime. The brass door handles, handrails and fittings- installed to compliment the Victorian factory reconstructions- are naturally germicidal. The copper element in the brass destroys pathogens that alight on it.
There will be a screen at reception and staff marshalling at key points to ensure everyone’s safety. Toilets will be open to only one person or family group at a time.
The measures at the Museum of Bath at Work are to ensure the health of residents and visitors is protected, along with our volunteer workforce as, at the same time Bath reopens safely to the many people that visit the city each year.
Chairman of Bath Industrial Heritage Trust, Dr Trevor Turpin, said: “It is fantastic news for residents and visitors that the Museum of Bath at Work can open its doors once again and we are looking forward to welcoming people back. However, we must continue to do all we can to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at the same time as providing a great visitor experience. Although we have to introduce restrictions at the Museum of Bath at Work this should not detract from people’s enjoyment of this famous attraction. We will have a keen focus on hygiene as well as social distancing, so we ask for visitors’ cooperation in keeping two metres apart on one-way routes as well as washing their hands regularly’.
