Take a look during lockdown.

It’s so sad that – as a heritage city –  that all our wonderful museums and galleries have been forced to close because of the need to tackle the pandemic.

Heard this morning from Grace Williams, the Marketing Director of the American Museum and Gardens.

She says:

‘I can’t quite believe it has been almost a month since the Museum closed it’s doors to you all.

It was such a disappointment to us all that we had our exhibition preview and opening weekend out of the way, only to close everything a week later.

With most staff on furlough and working with a skeleton crew, we are still making sure the collection is looked after, the gardens maintained and the Manor House in working order.

It’s also meant we’ve had more time to work on creative content to share with all of you, including interactive games and behind-the-scenes videos. Make sure you follow us on our social channels to join in.’

Grace says the gardeners have been working hard and will be producing weekly videos of what they have been up to – and here is the first one!

Yoga teacher ‘extraordinaire’ Robyne – who teaches museum staff – also recorded a session at the American Museum – before the lockdown. Something to look at if you have thirty minutes to spare.

The museum is also offering sneak peeks of the collection – including a series of videos showcasing their moving objects.

Grace concludes: ‘Thank you so much to all of you who have sent in your well-wishes and continuing to support the Museum during this time.

We also wish all of you and yours well and look forward to welcoming you back when we’re open again. ‘
