Some people may be surprised to learn that many of the objects on display at Bath’s Museum of East Asian Art were actually made for use in a Chinese kitchen or on a dining table.
In a fantastic new winter exhibition – entitled China on a Plate – curator Nicole Chiang sets out to show how many beautiful objects in their extensive collection were originally made for daily purposes and not meant to be displayed in a museum or collected by connoisseurs.
I asked Nicole to tell us more about the exhibition she has curated.
Another version of the exhibition will also be shown at the Brunei Gallery at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London from January 10th, 2020.

Please also note that opening times for the Museum of East Asian Art – located across from the Assembly Rooms in Bennett Street – have changed.
China on a Plate is viewable from Saturday, November 23rd through to May 8th next year.
