He may have been a scholar of ancient languages but as we head towards the ‘festive season’ it’s the poem Clement Clarke Moore wrote to amuse his children back in the 1820s – that has brought him lasting fame.
So it’s only fitting that his memorable work – widely known as ‘The Night Before Christmas’ – should be chosen as inspiration for this year’s Colourful Christmas at the Bath-based American Museum and Gardens.
In collaboration with illustrator Joe Watson, the young and young at heart, will have the chance to relive that unexpected encounter as they wander through the gardens and themed rooms at Claverton Manor.
The museum will also be hosting its annual Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, November 30th. The festive programme includes events for the little ones, including meeting the man of the season St Nick; and for the not so little ones, wreath-maker extraordinaire Sarah Pepper will be running a wreath-making workshop using foliage from the manor estate.
It’s all happening between November 28th and December 22nd. The website is accessed via https://americanmuseum.org
