Businesses in Bath’s Bear Flat district have welcomed a new information leaflet aimed to draw more shoppers and visitors to the local centre.
The Bear Flat Association has produced the information and given copies of the free leaflet to all the shops, supermarkets, pubs, restaurants, cafes, B&Bs, salons and other concerns in the area.
Bear Flat lies on the main road south from Bath City centre, but many commuters aren’t aware of what the local centre offers. The Association wants more of them to stop to shop or eat, and to browse what’s on offer.
‘We have excellent independent shops and cafés as well as popular chains like the Co-op, Majestic Wine and Carphone Warehouse,’ says Association Chair Gareth Somerset.
‘Some seem to imagine that the new Residents’ Parking Zone has made parking difficult – not so, it is now easier. As well as parking,’ he adds, ‘we offer 13 bus routes, including the Park & Ride so you can park at Odd Down and get off at Bear Flat.’
‘We run crafts courses that are several hours long,’ says Julia Davey. ‘The inclusion of the leaflet when we send out confirmation helps people find good spots for parking, like the segments on Shakespeare Avenue and Holloway where it’s free for three hours’.
Local Councillor Winston Duguid added his support by saying ‘it’s true, Bear Flat has become a lot easier for visitors by car and with the view from Alexandra Park only a short walk away and a choice of three refreshment outlets, Bear Flat is again becoming a place to shop and meet and avoid the congestion and cost of the city centre.’
