Are bikes electric?

I am finally able to answer a question posed a while ago by a Bath Newseum follower. John Batty wrote to say:

‘It’s now 4 months since Next Bikes disappeared. Where are the replacement e-bikes that Bath and North East Somerset Council promised following a successful bid for Go Ultra Low West funding from the Department for Transport (DfT).?’

I put in a request to B&NES for a comment on this John and here is the Council’s reply.

“The council is committed to reducing congestion and encouraging the use of energy efficient and emission-free transportation in order to reduce air pollution.
As part of this, the council will be trialling electric cycle hire in Bath, having successfully secured Go Ultra Low West funding from the Department of Transport.
We are currently inviting potential operators to tender for the scheme and anticipate work to commence on the installation of the infrastructure required later this summer.”

  1. Thank-you for following up and eliciting this response. I have to say it is shocking that the council still being at the stage of inviting operators to tender & makes the termination of Next Bikes in February look extremely premature.
