” Bath’s Twin city in France, Aix en Provence also has a Christmas market which is now running in the centre of Aix, one of the most beautiful cities in France. “ writes Marian McNeir MBE – Chairman of the Bath – Aix Twinning Association.
This year , as in previous years, there will be a contingent from Bath , literally “ flying the flag “ – see photo below and also selling local produce from Bath.
In the 5 days of the market, Mary Henderson and Lesley Hall will sell 1500 mince pies from Bakers of Bath in Twerton along with mini Christmas cakes and different sorts of Tea from Gillards of Bath, including Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Christmas blend and the intriguing Jane Austen Afternoon Tea.
In a Pickle in Winsley have supplied a wide variety of pickles, chutneys and jams including Mary Berry Mixed Berry Jam and Gamekeepers Relish.
Cotswold Fayre have supplied shortbread, Christmas puds and cranberry sauce — in other words, all that is needed to add a little bit of Bath to a Provencal Christmas !
The Bath stall is very popular with local Aix residents and is always a sell out but of course what is equally important is the “ entente cordiale “ with grass roots participation from citizens of both cities.
The Aix stand at the Bath Christmas Market opens tomorrow – Monday 3 December with a wonderful range of products arriving this weekend direct from Aix.
As Marian says ; “ Come and stock up on lavender products, great quality wine at very competitive prices, lovely kitchen and bathroom goods in Provencal prints, calissons – a delicious speciality sweet from Aix – and many more original presents. “
Thanks Richard – you’re a star ! Marian
