Rare Roman find at Abbey

Hot on the heels of unearthing part of a mediaeval tiled floor – while engaged on the Footprint Project at Bath Abbey – archaeologists working for Wessex Archaeology have now added a high status Roman object to their list of discoveries.

Archaeologists are working ahead of contractors – called in to stabilise the floor, install underfloor heating and construct new facilities for public and Abbey staff in a multi-million pound – HLF funded – project being carried out over the next two years.

Wessex Archaeology have released a ‘cleaned-up’ version which shows how well [reserved the seal box is!
