Bath prepares to remember.

 

The Mayor’s Office has issued details of this year’s Remembrance itinerary.

City of Bath – The Eleventh Hour of The Eleventh Day of The Eleventh Month – Saturday 11 November 2017

At 11.00 am a Bugler in the Abbey Church Yard will mark the start and finish of the two minutes silence to remember those who died in the service of their country.

Abbey Church Yard

The two minutes silence will be incorporated into a short Service being held outside the west door of Bath Abbey.  Standard Bearers from the Royal British Legion will be located there.  The Abbey Church Yard is generally the area where people gather to join in this act of remembrance.  The Mayor (Councillor Ian Gilchrist) will be present.

Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down

A short Service will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down, at 10.00 am.  The Bath United Services Association will be holding a Wreath Laying Ceremony at 11.00 am at the War Memorial, Firs Field, Combe Down.  The Deputy Mayor (Councillor Rob Appleyard) will attend and lay a Wreath.

Haycombe Cemetery

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Bereavement Services will be holding a Remembrance Service at the Cross of Remembrance at Haycombe Cemetery at 10.45 am.  The Immediate Past Mayor (Councillor Paul Crossley) will attend and lay a Wreath.

Twerton War Memorial

A Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at the War Memorial at Twerton (North side of St Michael & All Angel’s Church) at 11.00 am, attended by St Michael’s Junior School.  Past Mayors Councillor Tim Ball and Honorary Alderman Mrs Sharon Ball) will attend and lay a Wreath.

City of Bath – Royal British Legion Remembrance Wreath Laying Ceremony – Sunday 11 November 2017

At 11.00 am the Mayor (Councillor Ian Gilchrist) will lay the first Wreath at the City of Bath War Memorial, Royal Victoria Park.

At 2.30 pm The Royal British Legion Remembrance Sunday Parade and March Past will take place outside the Guildhall.  The Salute will be taken by Lieutenant General Ivan Hooper, Interim CEO, Information Systems Services, MoD.  The Parade will be followed by a Civic Procession with the City Sword-Bearer, Mace-Bearers, the Mayor, visiting dignitaries, Charter Trustees, Honorary Aldermen, military representatives and B&NES Councillors, to Bath Abbey for the Remembrance Service at 3.00 pm.

Public tickets for the Service must be obtained from the RBL Poppy Depot at 33 Broad Street, Bath.

Road closures at Milsom Street, Northgate Street, High Street and Orange Grove will be in operation from 9.30 am until 4.30 pm.
