Bath’s historic Abbey Green could soon be the site of a new ‘Independent Market’ which would be held eight times a year.
It’s an idea that has been put forward for planning approval by Silvana de Soissons – who owns The Foodie Bugle in that area – a site which is already used as part of the annual Christmas Market.

In her proposal to B&NES planners she says : ‘ The traders would be selected small, independent family businesses, traders, makers, growers, crafters, artisans and producers from Bath and the nearby villages. There will be a limited number of stalls to begin with – around 20 to 25.’
She says there would be no hot food or takeaway food or hot drink stalls at the market.

She is hoping to get permission to hold the event – from March to October -on the third Sunday of the month from 10 am to 4pm.

‘No pitch is guaranteed,’ says Sylvia, ‘each month the pitches are allocated on merit. Traders will apply online with descriptions and photographs of their wares or goods and they will be notified 14 days prior to the market date whether they have been successful in securing a pitch.”
