Every year the Friends of the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath invite a member of the local creative community to make a Christmas tree.

The commission this year – made up of dye on silk/viscose –  has been done by textile designer and artist Carole Walter – with help from Mary Kelly, Sae Murai and Felicity Jowitt from Bath Spa University’s Contemporary Arts Practice.

Carole – who was born in Birmingham in 1956 – began making wearable art in 1986.

Her work can be found in many books on contemporary textiles and there are examples of her work in the V & A in London.

She sells through outlets like Harvey Nichols and Liberty of London – and even Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
