A bit of budget trimming by B&NES back in 2012 has led to the blossoming of a local community project – thanks to the input of a former Mayor of Bath.

Seems the Council’s Parks Department decided not to plant out the roundabout at the bottom of Landsown Lane in Weston – as in previous years – and suggested a wild seed planting.
However, as this was the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and Weston Village was having a special festival, the ward’s independent councillor Malcolm Lees decided – with the permission of the council – to purchase plants himself from the Parks Department.
With the help of fellow Independents, June Player and Dave Laming, this former Mayor of Bath succeeded in planting out the roundabout in red white and blue – in time for the festival.
It’s now become accepted by Parks Department that this has now become an ongoing community project and for the last two years, the roundabout has been planted out and tended by local residents and Malcolm’s family.
