Get reading with Super Duck!

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Library Service is inviting under-fives to dress up as their favourite heroes at events to celebrate National Bookstart Week next month.

There will be free events at Council libraries throughout the week, which runs from 9 – 15 June 2014 and hundreds of special Super Duck booklets will be given away to celebrate heroes everywhere.

Super Duck is the most recent in the ‘Duck in the Truck’ series by well-known picture book author and illustrator, Jez Alborough. He’s supporting Bookstart and local libraries to inspire families to read every day.

On Tuesday 10 June between 11am and 11.45am under-fives are invited to come to Bath Central Library dressed as their favourite hero and will be able to enjoy hero-themed stories, rhymes and craft activities.

Councillor David Dixon, (Lib Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council has long-supported National Bookstart Week as it is a wonderful opportunity to bring together young children and families across the area in a celebration of reading.”

Julia Burton, Libraries Development Manager, said: “Bath & North East Somerset Council’s libraries are providing a valuable resource to families with more and more under-fives joining their library every year. It’s never too early to start sharing books with your baby and give them a head start in life.”
All under-fives will also have a chance to win a cuddly Bookstart Bear – each child who uses their Bath & North East Somerset Council library card during National Bookstart Week will be entered into a prize draw. There’s a Bookstart Bear to be won at every library in Bath and North East Somerset.
