Catherine Beale who lives in Wellow had both her portrait entries accepted this year by the Society of Women Artists for hanging at its 152nd annual exhibition at The Mall Galleries, London, and was thrilled when the telephone rang last Tuesday with the news that she had won The Artist Magazine Award for her portrait of fellow artist Georgia Cox entitled ‘Butterfly House’.

Catherine said:

‘It was an unexpected pleasure to win this award – I visited the Mall Galleries before when my watercolour of my son Robbie was shown there, and there was a very impressive range of work on display this year.’

Catherine’s award was presented to her by HRH Princess Michael of Kent, the Patron of the Society of Women Artists, at the show’s preview last Wednesday ahead of the public exhibition which starts on Thursday June 27th and ends on Saturday 6th July.

The Society of Women Artists will support The Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity throughout 2013.
