A series of fascinating evening sessions will be held at Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Roman Baths during its late-night opening this July and August.
The “Wednesday Wonders” events, from 17 July to 28 August, give visitors the chance to get hands-on with archaeology. Members of the Council’s Roman Baths team and volunteers will be available to show and explain the stories behind some wonderful objects.
Each week the team aims to showcase different aspects of the Roman Baths and its archaeological collection to visitors.
Councillor Ben Stevens (Lib-Dem, Widcombe), Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: “The Roman Baths has a wide variety of objects that tell the story of our area in Roman times, and Bath & North East Somerset Council is pleased to offer this great opportunity for people to get hands-on with our local history.
“It’s also a rare treat to enjoy the unique delights of the Roman Baths in the late summer evenings, as the sun goes down and creates an awe-inspiring atmosphere.”
The Wednesday Wonders run from 6pm to 8pm on 17, 24 and 31 July, and 7, 14, 21 and 28 August.
The world-famous Roman Baths – winner of the national Silver Award for Excellence from VisitEngland in the Large Visitor Attraction finals – will stay open to visitors every evening throughout July and August until 10pm (last admission 9pm). As it is managed by Bath & North East Somerset Council, entry to the Roman Baths is free to local residents on production of a Discovery Card. Normal entry charges apply to everyone else.
Visitors may round off their evening with a meal in the Roman Baths Kitchen, in Abbey Church Yard, where last orders are taken at 9.30pm.
