At last!

Good to see that, finally, that terrible fencing around the entrance to the Roman Baths shop has been dismantled.

It wasn’t exactly the best advertisement for the Baths and Pump Room in terms of tourist appreciation.

The council hasn’t said much about why the fencing was there. That is until now.

It seems there has been concern about the condition of some of the vaulting below the road where some temporary props have now been installed to add extra support.

Movement detectors have been placed on the propping and if there is any movement the barriers will be reinstated for public safety.

The props will stay in place until Historic England and other bodies work out how a permanent strengthening solution will work.

This will require all sorts of careful conservation considerations, and It may well take months to resolve.
