Newly published data shows that nearly nine out of ten children due to start secondary school in Bath and North East Somerset this September have been offered their preferred placement.
From 1,845 applications received by Bath & North East Somerset Council from B&NES residents, 97.1% were offered one of their overall preferences, with 88.8% – some 1,638 pupils – offered their first preference.
Additionally, 130 children were offered their second preference of school, 21 children their third preference and three were offered their fourth preference. None were offered their fifth preference.
Fifty-three children have not been offered a place at any of their preferences and have instead been offered a place at their next nearest school with a place available, which is known as a referral.
All Bath and North East Somerset pupils who made an on-time application have been offered a place.
Councillor Paul May, cabinet member for Children’s Services, said: “We are pleased that the vast majority of children in Bath and North East Somerset have received offers from one of their preferred schools. Schools in B&NES provide high-quality learning and are committed to supporting children’s development. We wish the children all the best for the next exciting step in their education journey in September.”
