Pix of the day. Monday, February 23rd

Today’s visual bears a familiar Bath name but in fact comes all the way from New Zealand from where Iain Haysom writes:

“Kia ora Richard,

As a long time reader of your Bath Newseum site, I thought you and your readers might be interested in these photos.

After 20 years living in Bath, my wife and I emigrated to New Zealand in 2020 and we now live in Christchurch on the South Island.

In early February this year we took a weekend break in the capital, Wellington, to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were walking around the waterfront and were delighted to come across this very imposing piece of Bath history.

It’s a level luffing crane made by Stothert & Pitt in 1951, and capable of moving loads of up to 4.5 tonnes. I am not an engineer so cannot comment on what use a level luffing crane was put to, and had to look up Wikipedia to learn what a level luffing crane is.

Maybe you or one of your readers would know more.

Anyway, I hope you like the photos. My wife and I loved our time in Bath and have very fond memories of the city, so it was nice to be unexpectedly reminded of them when on the other side of the globe.”

Thanks Iain and hope you’ll continue to follow bathnewseum.com
