It’s amazing to think Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery has been collecting and caring for works of art since 1900, which means last year marked the 125th anniversary of this popular venue.
Its collection has grown through the generosity of donors who believed their artworks should be enjoyed by everyone.

In the Gallery’s first decade alone, 500 works were acquired, and only two had to be paid for!

I have been to view a new display which celebrates the most recent additions to the collection – all of them generously donated.

Time for a chat with the exhibition curator, Jim Riseley.

I would love information to be posted about the copy of the frieze from the Parthenon that runs round the top of the upper gallery that has just been renovated. It is very unusual in an art gallery, very fascinating but there is no information about it!
