School holidays can be expensive for parents, but here’s a fun suggestion to keep your youngsters happy that doesn’t cost a penny.
From cracking the next case at the federal department of fonts to building mythical kingdoms one Lego brick at a time, there’s plenty of half-term fun for you to explore at BRLSI. ‘Neverending stories’ comes courtesy of BRLSI’s family programme, the Academy of Imagination and delivers a host of free and fantastic events to get you match fit for the National Year of Reading 2026.
Just head over to 16 Queen Square on the 17th and 18th February and explore all the activities on offer to make words come alive.
The fun includes:
- Where the really wild things are! Become a master-builder in our mythical Lego Kingdom.
Mind your fingers, it’s wild out there! Watch out for the weasels, wild things and wildebeests all roaming the BRLSI Lego Kingdom. Are you truly a wild thing, and will you, like Max’ inWhere the Wild Things Are, make it back in time for supper?
- The NeverEnding Story
Ever created a world out of a sheet of paper or written a story with anyone else? In which case, shake the dice and write the latest chapter of the BRLSI never-ending story.
- Whizbang Wordgames
If you ever wanted to know how to get a sentence-stopper out of a Banana or sweep the board with a two-letter word, this is the challenge you’ve been waiting for. Join us for a whole heap of fun playing and making word-based games.
- The Federal Department of Fonts
Are you a plain-clothes officer from the federal department of fonts or an amateur sleuth-hound trying to work out why some words are easier to read than other words. In which case your detective skills are needed, and your next case has arrived. It’s just waiting for you to crack it.
- The BRLSI Big Bind!
You’ve imagined the best story in the world, but how do you transform it into a number one best-seller. Learn how to create your mini-masterpiece with paper, needle, thread and by using your best bookbinding skills.
If you love folding bits of paper and putting things together this is going to be fun.
- The Cosy Corner
Cold Outside? Settle into our cosy book nook and begin your descent into the magical world of nature books. And if you would like to bring your own book from home, we’d love to see it.
- Ancient book display
Zebra, Zonkeys and Zorilla’s, what sort of creatures existed in the past and can you hope to find them in our ancient book display?
If you’re ready to get really wild and creative this half term, join us for Neverending stories at BRLSI on 17thand 18th February and don’t be surprised if you encounter some really wild things while you are there.
